The Union, University & Schools Club of Sydney

Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire.

- Gustav Mahler

The UUSC was founded in 1857 to create a haven for social and professional relationships. Priding ourselves on tradition and friendship, The Club provides unrivalled hospitality in plush surroundings to an exclusive private membership of like-minded individuals.

For further information about the Club, please contact us via phone or email with any questions or comments.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Members and guests are expected to be appropriately attired in the Club at all times. The etiquette of attire is designed to make the Club a comfortable place for all Members and to reflect the elegance of the Club’s surroundings.

The Clubhouse is situated in the heart of the Sydney CBD close to Sydney’s beautiful harbour.  The Club offers excellent facilities and services and caters for a range of different events.

Founded in 1857, the Union, University & Schools Club is proud of its inheritance. We still provide that agreeable oasis within the city that James Macarthur sought to create back in 1857. Our past is memorable but our future is even brighter.

Think Manhattan vibe. By day, the hustle and hum of the CBD at work. Come evening, skyscrapers light up and its exquisite exclusivity. No other city club features such a dynamic and entertaining space.

The Club has a 164-year history of offering members access to the best Club events throughout the year. Whatever your requirements, the Club can organise this for and your guests. With an emphasis on excellence, we will ensure your function is a success.

Whether you’re a Reciprocal guest or a Member, it’s worth packing good walking shoes. In minutes you’re on historic Macquarie Street, strolling The Royal Botanical Gardens and overlooking spectacular Sydney Harbour.

It’s our priority to welcome our members and their guests and create wonderful memories.  All our staff welcome Members and guests into the Club with the same warmness and enthusiasm as they would do a visitor to their own home.

Whether dining with friends and family, other Members, or business associates, the Club is the ideal setting in which to enjoy the cuisine of the highest quality prepared by Executive Chef Dean Forbes and his team.

The ability to add a water exercise to your regimen makes our Health & Fitness Club a rarity in Sydney’s CBD. Do laps or simply ease down after weights, spin classes, boxing, pilates, squash. Our trainers will prepare and monitor your personal fitness program.

The Club offers fine dining at its best and enjoys an unparalleled reputation for providing the highest quality food and drink at Member prices. Members and their guests enjoy the most elegant of Dining rooms, typical of what one would expect to find in a Private Members Club.

The Library with its historical ambience is ideal for a variety of events and often used as a pre-function drinks venue.  The traditional library and archives collection contains books covering a wide range of subjects.

Wines have been selected by the Club’s Wine Committee and display the tastes of many members. Visiting the cellar is welcomed Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9am and 5pm. Appointments are requested.
